Under general direction of Director, performs original and independent research as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on complex Institute research projects that support business needs. Disseminates results of research to scientific community and customers through peer-reviewed journals, technical seminars and presentations. Provides scientific mentorship to less experienced Researchers and oversight to technical administrative support staff and Research Assistants. Works collaboratively with visiting scholars and post-doctoral students to publish research.
Responsibilities
Conceives, plans, and conducts original research to address workplace, built environment, and driving safety as well as disability and return-to-work problems using advanced methodologies and scientific principles.
Develops own research proposals and addresses difficult scientific questions.
Collaborates extensively within LMRIS, participates in multi-disciplinary research projects and develops external network.
Submits high quality research results to refereed journals for publication, in accordance with Senior Research Scientist performance metrics.
Prepares proposals for Directors, Technical Review Committee, and Institutional Review Board.
Ensures research contributes or impacts beyond scientific community and participates in translating, interpreting or implementing research findings.
Serves as lead LMRIS investigator in extramural research partnerships.
Provides scientific mentorship to less experienced Researchers; provides other research staff with technical direction and guidance.
May support or serve as program leader in the development of new project plans.
Contributes to external committees; organizes internal and external conferences, workshops and meetings.
Qualifications:
PhD. in a scientific discipline with minimum 5 years research experience or Masters degree in scientific discipline with 10 years of research experience, including peer reviewed publications.
A continuing record of publication in premier journals, which include first authored publications relevant to the LMRIS program.
Publication record usually achieved through 2 or more years of programmatic research work at LMRIS; however, publication may be achieved in whole or in part through prior research experience and publications highly relevant to the LMRIS research program.
National recognition as an original independent researcher.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong presentation skills.
